Alwana is an organic oil that is pressed from roasted olives according to the old family recipe, which is more than 100 years old. Alwana is made from olives that are roasted in a traditional clay oven. This creates the characteristic smell and taste of Alwana. The roasted olives are then processed into paste with an old-fashioned millstone and then cold-pressed by hand. The earthy color of Alwana is the result of this natural process. The oil is a 100% pure product. Alwana has no further treatment and is not filtered.
Alwana is made by hand with love. It is very healthy as it does not contain artificial additives or preservatives. It is an organic product with an exceptionally high percentage of unsaturated fats (87%), which is considerably higher than the average extra virgin olive oil (76%). Unsaturated fat is known for it’s beneficial health effects. For example it increases good cholesterol and lowers bad cholesterol. It has been proven that the unsaturated fats from the olive reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Alwana is made for own use on a very small scale in a small area in the Rif Mountains of Northern Morocco. For the first time in the history of Alwana the oil is available outside of the local area.
In 2022, only 1200 cans (250 ml) of Alwana are available. In order to guarantee exclusivity, every can of Alwana is numbered and possibly provided with a handwritten name.
The unique taste, diverse applicability and healthy characteristics make Alwana an absolute must have for the culinary and health conscious user.
